For the last few months, we’ve been church shopping. We’ve been exploring churches online, asking friends in the area for ideas, and yes, I’ve even tweeted about our search in hopes of some suggestions. We have attended two different churches and when I say different, I’m talking polar opposites. We worshiped in a tiny elementary school theatre room one Sunday and then an auditorium seating over 3000 this past Sunday. At the first church, most dressed in jeans and sweatshirts and at the other people wore suits and ties. We went from an acoustic guitar and a single microphone to a full orchestra, organ, and robed choir. From praise and worship music lead by 2 church members to traditional hymns sung by over 80 choir members. And while styles of worship couldn’t be more different in these two churches, God filled both places.
You see, God doesn’t care if you wear formal wear to church or sit on handcraft pews. He doesn’t care if worship is lead by 2 people or 200. It doesn’t matter to God whether you sing with your eyes closed and hands in the air or share a hymnal with your neighbour. The only thing God asks is that you be present with Him; that you listen to His Word and spread His love to those around you. It really is that simple.
