Would you look at this sweet face?

Is it just me or is she the cutest thing you've ever seen? How could I possibly take the time to blog when I've got this yummy baby to munch on all day long! There will still be plenty of pictures to share, but it may be weeks before I get back to regularly written posts. Back to mommyland!

Day 648 - May 25, 2011

Not So Wordless Wednesday...

After reading the comments on yesterday's post and receiving emails and phone calls this morning, I think it's time I clear a few things up. Greg said to me last night, "If you don't have this baby by tomorrow, people are going to think of you as the girl who cried wolf." When I posted my update yesterday, it didn't even occur to me that people would think I was actually in labor. I was definitely experiencing early signs of labor, but for those of you who haven't taken any pregnancy/childbirthing classes, walked through the experience of pregnancy with someone you love or been pregnant yourself, you may not know that these early signs of labor can last for weeks. And they have. I've been experiencing contractions since 34 weeks and cramping and nausea off and on for several weeks. It's all normal and just my body's way of preparing for the real thing! As for being 3-4 cm dilated, that, too, is not uncommon. Women can walk around 4 cm dilated for weeks. It doesn't necessarily mean delivery is imminent. I should also let you know that I won't be blogging when I'm in labor, so any updates you get are just me letting you know what I found out at my latest midwives' appointment.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. I cannot wait to meet my little Itty girl and introduce her to all of you. I hope this little door hanger will be true very soon!

Day 647 - May 24, 2011

Quick update:

I'm currently experiencing lots of cramping, so I'll make this quick. I had a wonderful appointment with my midwives this morning and everything with Itty looks great! They are so pleased with how my body is handling this pregnancy and I was told, once again, that I was made to have babies.

So guess what? I'm already 3-4 cm dilated and my cervix is 60-70% effaced! Itty is at 0 station which means she's engaged in the pelvis and ready to go! I was told that I have a very suggestible cervix and that it is sure to respond well and quickly once I go into labor. I've been thinking Itty will be over 8 lbs. Their guess is 7 3/4 lbs. We'll see who's right!

Every night, Greg asks me, "So, what's your plan for tomorrow?" My answer is usually do a load of laundry, bake something, or clean up the apartment. Tonight, my answer just may be, "I think I'll have a baby."

Day 646 - May 23, 2011

I got an email in my inbox this morning titled, "My Baby This Week: Your 1-week-old." Um, nope. I guess babycenter.com didn't get the memo that I'm still very much pregnant. At 41 weeks pregnant, I'm feeling too great to be having a baby any time soon. Aside from more movement from Itty lately and some tighter contractions, I feel pretty awesome! I know that can change on a dime and I pray that it does sometime this week. I'm really hoping I'll go into labor naturally and avoid an induction. I have an appointment with my midwives tomorrow morning, so we'll see what they say.

In other news, I'm kind of thrilled that I made it to 41 weeks. I've been in contact with an incredibly talented newborn photographer in Orange County who is looking for newborn models under 2 weeks old for an upcoming workshop. The workshop is 2 weeks from today, so it looks like Itty may have made the cut. I think Itty knows how much I want her to be a part of this precious newborn photoshoot and is waiting to make her debut until I know for sure. I'll be sure to post details and photos (of course) if everything works out. I'm just hoping there aren't too many OC moms with scheduled c-section dates this week that have already confirmed their participation in this amazing opportunity.

Day 644 - May 21, 2011

Well, baby #4 of 6 from our childbirth preparation class was born last night. Another beautiful little girl! Two weeks ago, I bumped into this brand new baby girl's Mommy, Hayley, at our midwives' office. We chatted a while and she shared with me that she was looking forward to her baby dropping and being able to breathe again. I told her that Itty had dropped about 4 weeks ago and I was feeling great! That evening, I told Greg about my chat with Hayley and I remember specifically saying, "It sounds like we won't be the last ones to deliver." I guess it was silly of me to assume that since Itty's been ready to go for 6 weeks now she would arrive before their little girl.

Day 642 - May 19, 2011

I took a long walk to the library yesterday. I've become somewhat of a regular there. There are always interesting books to pick up or the latest issues of my favourite magazines to catch up on. The librarians know me well and are usually anxious to hear the latest pregnancy updates when I come in. One woman is always so encouraging and tells me every time that if she could delivery her baby naturally, I sure as heck can do it.

Yesterday, I met someone new. I'm not sure whether she worked at the library or not, but she definitely walked around like she owned the place. I was on my way to the bathroom when this older woman cornered me and asked, "Any time now?" I told her that I had just passed my due date and she literally squatted down in front of me and held her hands out, how should I put this, very close to the birth canal. I'm not joking. Her hands were a little too close for comfort. She proceeded to follow me into the restroom. "You'll never believe this," she said. "I was in a hospital elevator once and there was a pregnant lady in there with me, riding up to the labor and delivery floor. She delivered right there in the elevator and I had to catch the baby." "Wow," was all I could muster. At this point, my bladder was about to explode and I'm thinking this lady is a little crazy. I tried to make my way into the bathroom stall, but she stopped me and asked, "Is it a boy?" "No, it's a girl," I said. "Do you have a name yet?" she asked. I sort of lied and told her that we hadn't yet decided and wanted to wait to see what she looked like. The lady was shocked. "Hmmm...," she said, "What's your name?" "Andrea," I answered. "Okay, Andrea. How about Angela? Yes, Angela Marie." Her eyes lit up. She went on to suggest Angela Michelle and Meaghan as other options. I didn't tell her that Angela is the name of one of my husband's ex-girlfriend's or that Meaghan is potentially the name of my future sister-in-law. No, I just smiled and said, "What beautiful suggestions." She went on about how honored she'd be if I named the baby after her and that she'd be the baby's godmother and take her shopping and to the movies and out to eat. At this point, I decided to close the bathroom stall door.

Speaking of baby names, we got an email this morning announcing the arrival of the third baby from our childbirth preparation class. A beautiful little girl with quite a unique name. Galaxy Lyzalou. I sure didn't see that one coming, but I cannot wait to meet her in the coming weeks! If the trend continues, we're next in line to deliver!

Day 640 - May 17, 2011

First of all, thank you to all of you who left such sweet comments on yesterday's post. I can tell that many of you are mothers and have been in my shoes before. You know just what to say to make a very pregnant woman smile.

What better way to thank you than to share a sweet treat with all of you. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but my husband is a sucker for gourmet popcorn. He just loves when the folks from Popcornopolis come to Costco to dish out delicious samples of their gourmet popcorn. His favourite flavour has got to be Gourmet Zebra Chocolate Popcorn. If you haven't tried it, you really must. It's delicious!

The downfalls to this treat are that Popcornopolis cones are only sold at Costco once every few months and they tends to be a little pricey. So this weekend, we attempted to recreate this mouth-watering treat at home!

We began by making 3 baking sheets full of caramel popcorn.

Then we drizzled the caramel popcorn with melted milk chocolate, luscious white chocolate, and creamy caramel.

Let me pause here a second and say that yes, that is the same 9 months pregnant belly you saw in yesterday's photos. This is what I see when I look in the mirror each day. Now you understand why I'm so shocked when I see a picture of my belly from the side. Anyway, back to the popcorn.

Oh wait. That's it! It's that simple to make and let me tell you, it knocks the socks off Popcornopolis popcorn. It honestly tastes exactly like it and for a mere fraction of the cost. The nice thing about making your own is that you control the chocolate. Every single piece of popcorn we made has a drizzle of chocolate on it, unlike the stuff that's mass produced. Plus, you can add nuts or maybe your favourite melted candy bar. The possibilities are really endlessly delicious!

Day 639 - May 16, 2011

I'm 9 months pregnant, 40 weeks to be exact, and can't believe this day has arrived. May 16th is a date we've been anticipating for 9 months. For many women, when their due date finally rolls around, they are desperate to give birth. That's not the case for me. Don't get me wrong, I cannot wait to hold my little girl and official be called her Mommy, but you will not find me getting frustrated that she hasn't arrived yet or calling the nearest hospital to induce me or schedule a c-section. I feel calm and relaxed and prepared to welcome Itty whenever labor naturally begins. I am perfectly content trusting God, my body, and my baby girl. I have said it before and I'll say it again. God's timing is perfect! So, I will wait patiently and spend today celebrating my sweet girl.

This past weekend, I thought it would be neat to go back to the beach where we took my first pregnancy photos when I was only 3 months along. It is incredible to see the changes in my body and I am in complete awe of the entire process.

Look at how our little Itty girl has grown!

Day 637 - May 14, 2011

You know that iPad I won? Well, I have to say that I haven't seen much of it in the last few months. My husband and the iPad, on the other hand, are inseparable. Greg spends just about every waking minute with it. He takes the iPad to work every day and brings it to bed with him every night. I wouldn't be surprised if he has it beside him while I'm laboring. Luckily for him, he now has a good reason to keep the iPad close by, thanks to a free app we found called "Contraction Timer." I have a feeling this app is going to come in very handy, especially since I don't own a watch and my hubby's has been missing for months.

Day 636 - May 13, 2011

There is no motivation like false labor. On Tuesday evening, when I began experiencing intense nausea, cramping, and painful contractions, the first thing that entered my mind (aside from the overwhelming joy that I may be welcoming my baby girl very soon) was that our place was a mess! I didn't get to the vacuuming today, I told Greg. The false labor continued throughout the night, but by morning, the pain was gone. So, on Wednesday, there was nothing to do but clean!

I swept the patio, vacuumed the carpets, scrubbed and mopped the tile floors, dusted the bookshelves, cleaned the bathroom mirror, sink, toilet, and tub, cleaned the stove and counter tops, scrubbed the kitchen sinks, cut up a container full of veggies, made homemade Skor bars, baked 2 dozen chocolate fudge cookies for Greg, and put together a centerpiece of branches and flowers for our dining room table. Nesting much? If Itty doesn't come soon, I have a funny feeling I'll be doing this all over again next week!

Day 633 - May 10, 2011

Here is the picture I was talking about. Would you take a look at that belly?! I was a little shocked to see it myself. It sure didn't seem to look that big in the bathroom mirror earlier that day. Our baby girl is definitely growing! Our midwives agree that Itty has gotten bigger. I was told this afternoon that she's a good 7 lbs. I have to wonder if they actually think she's bigger than that but are keeping it to themselves for my sake.

As for my classmates, I found out that only 1 of the 3 births yesterday was to one of our friends. And she was due 10 days ago, so I'm nothing but thrilled that she finally welcomed her little girl into the world. There are still 4 babies to be born from our class including Itty. Can't wait to see who will be next!

Monday, May 9, 2011

Day 632 - May 9, 2011

I'm 39 weeks and still pregnant! I say "still" because I just got a call from our midwives' office telling me that my appointment this evening is canceled because all of the midwives on staff are at births today. And whose births are they attending? My childbirth preparation classmates! I'm thrilled that our friends are becoming parents today, but it does leave me wondering when our day will come. I gave Itty the go-ahead to arrive last Saturday because there was nothing I wanted more than to spend Mother's Day kissing and cuddling my little girl, but I guess she thought my Mother's Day would be more relaxing if she just stayed inside a while longer.

Throughout this pregnancy, I have never expected that I would deliver early. I have always assumed that I would reach my due date, which is only 7 days from now, but when your friends start going into labor and their due dates were after yours, it does make you think.

On Sunday, we were out with some friends for a Mother's Day brunch when a lady approached me and asked me when I was due. I told her I only had a week to go and she looked shocked. "Wow! You look incredible!" she said. "You were made to have babies. Seriously, you should have, like, 12." I don't think we'll go that far, but it sure is nice to hear such lovely comments from a stranger this late in the pregnancy.

A few minutes later, a little girl, who I'd say was about 8 or 9 years old, stood in front of me and just stared at my tummy. Then, without looking up, she began lightly poking my belly and asked, "Is there a baby in there?" "Yes, there is," I said. She smiled, then turned her head to the side with a puzzled look on her face. "What's that?" she said, pointing to the little bump in the middle of my stomach. "That's my belly button," I responded. "Oh," she said and walked away. I couldn't help but laughed.

My friend, Holly, the one who's pregnant with Itty's boyfriend, took a nice picture of Greg and I on the beach yesterday, but she hasn't sent it yet. I'll be sure to post it when I get it.

Day 628 - May 5, 2011

I love this man.

I couldn't be more proud to be married to a man with such drive and initiative. He is passionate about his art and determined to make his career dreams a reality. It is truly inspiring to watch him take on new challenges with such enthusiasm. Thinking about him a lot today and praying God will continue to open doors.

Day 626 - May 3, 2011

Guess what?

Itty's got a boyfriend!

We just found out that good friends of ours are expecting a little boy in September! We can't wait for play dates on the beach and countless photoshoots of our little cuties! It will be such a joy to watch our babes grow together. And you never know what could happen. After all, my husband and I first met when we were in diapers!

Monday, May 2, 2011

Day 625 - May 2, 2011

I'm 38 weeks pregnant today and feeling very prepared after tackling a long list of tasks with my husband this weekend. We did everything from putting together the stroller and mamaRoo baby swing to buying tarps, a hose, and an adapter for our faucet. Yes, I changed my mind again and have gone back to my original plan of giving birth in an inflatable birthing tub rather than our bath tub. I just think I'll be more comfortable if I'm able to move around more.

I have been feeling wonderful these days and continue to be thankful that I'm not experiencing any of the late 3rd trimester pregnancy symptoms I've read about. Except, of course, for the constant trips to the bathroom.

I have also been feeling very crafty these days and yesterday, I even managed to get my husband in on the action! I can't wait for craft time with Itty!
