Earlier this week, our little 1-year-old decided that she was ready to start using the potty. She was a very quick learner which was a huge relief to me. I used to watch Adelyn like a hawk and follow her around with the potty hoping to catch her pee. Amazingly, Briar is very independent and will walk to the bathroom, pull down her underwear and go all on her own. Her potty chart is filling up very quickly with stickers.
Briar was beyond thrilled this morning when I took her to the store to pick out her very own underwear. As we pulled into the parking lot, she yelled from the backseat, "New underwear! Ohhh yaaaa!"
I walked into the room and memories from my childhood came rushing back. Memories I didn't even realize were still in my mind. Memories of the table. The wooden platform. The white board with pieces of tape all over it. The heavy vest. The light. The shadows. The sound of the beep.
Today, I am thankful for my parents who put on brave faces for me as a child when they probably just felt like crumbling. Now it's my turn.
