With Daddy working overtime and the heatwave keeping us indoors, we have needed to get creative when it comes to activities this week.
The girls and I were playing hair salon and they were giving me a beautiful new do for my Prince when they suggested we do our make-up too. This is something I've never let them do before so they were a little surprised and utterly thrilled when I said, "Let's do it!"
Their smiles grew as they applied purple eye shadow to my eyebrows and forehead. Adelyn giggled as Briar smeared sparkly lipstick on her lips, cheeks and teeth. Briar burst into laughter as Adelyn brushed layer after layer of sweet smelling strawberry blush on her cheeks.
"It's so beautiful!" Briar exclaimed, just like her talking toy chipmunk.
"I look like a clown," Adelyn remarked as she looked at her reflection in the mirror.
When they were sufficiently caked in make-up, the girls ran off to the playroom where the laughter continued.
After about 10 minutes of pretending to be circus clowns, Adelyn came to me and said, "Mommy, I want to wash it off now. I'm ready to be myself again."
I looked into her blue eyes as I gently wiped her cheeks with a warm cloth and I whispered, "Never stop being yourself, baby girl."
Now that her flower girl duties are done, I decided it was time for Adelyn to get another haircut. I suggested the idea to her a few days ago and she was thrilled! I thought back to my childhood when I would sit on the kitchen counter as my parents cut my hair. With a little help from YouTube, I could cut her hair myself, I thought. Adelyn was very excited to play hair salon for real this afternoon. Briar was less confident in my abilities and could barely watch as I prepared to make the first cut. Thankfully, it was easier than even I thought and my sweet Addy is delighted with the her new do!
