Day 28 - January 28, 2016

It's official. All the worrying about Adelyn's neck mass is finally over. Yesterday, she had a follow-up appointment with her surgeon and we were told that the lump simply consisted of 3 reactive lymph nodes and there was no evidence of malignancy. The girls and I sang and praised God the whole ride home. We are so thankful to close this chapter and enjoy these warm winter days with our healthy 4-year-old!

Day 15 - January 15, 2016

Our poor little B woke up at 3am feeling miserable and spent most of the day in my arms. I had to get creative with entertaining Adelyn, so this afternoon, I set her up with my camera, taught her how to use the timer function and let her capture whatever she pleased. I loved watching her run from the camera to the couch and back again every 15 seconds to check out her photo and set up a new shot. I was thrilled this evening when I looked through the pictures and found these precious moments.

Day 11 - January 11, 2016

Addy's teachers sent her home with a chef's hat and apron, a pizza box and a menu she had created herself. The girls had a blast making their own pizzas and playing pizza delivery and restaurant all afternoon!

Day 8 - January 8, 2016

After years of worrying, second-guessing, and praying for guidance, we are so thankful to be on the other side of surgery. Adelyn did extremely well. She is one tough girl. I said to Greg shortly after we made it back home, "I can't believe how amazing she's doing. I don't think either of us would be sitting up at the table happily eating pizza, yogurt and applesauce right after surgery." As I buckled her into her car seat before heading home, she looked up at me and said, "I had fun at the hospital!" I am so thankful God made me Mama to this sweet, brave, strong and beautiful little girl!

Day 7 - January 7, 2016

Tonight, for the first time in ages, Adelyn asked if she could sit on my lap while we read bedtime stories. Briar usually claims this spot and Adelyn doesn't seem to mind, but tonight, I think Addy knew that I needed to hold her. Maybe she noticed me just staring at her throughout the day or maybe it was all the hugs and kisses I gave her. At one point, she laughed as she broke through one of my hugs and said, "Too much love, Mommy." I lingered for a little longer in the girl's room tonight. I read more stories than I usually do, sang every song they requested and prayed for as long as they would listen.

Tomorrow, I will look into my little girl's big blue eyes and tell her again how much I love her. I will hug and kiss her before she is wheeled off into surgery. I will choke back tears and smile for her. I will pray every minute she is out of my sight and anxiously await the moment when I can hold her again. Tomorrow, I will be brave for her. But tonight I will cry.

Day 6 - January 6, 2016

I've been talking with Adelyn throughout the week about her upcoming surgery, but while she was at school today, I realized that I should probably tell Briar what was going on. I explained to her that Addy was going to the hospital and that the doctor was going to take away the lump on her neck and make it all better. I told her Addy would be home the same day, but might need to take it easy and just rest. Briar looked up from her coloring page and said, "Addy Grace can have my bear." "Your favorite teddy bear?" I asked. "Ya!" she exclaimed. "So she can feel better." I was stunned. My sweet 2-year-old has been carrying this little teddy bear around and sleeping with it every night since I won it for her at Greg's work Christmas party in December. Her bear was the only thing she had to bring with her on our cruise. To hear that my baby girl was willing to give her most cherished possession to her sister brought tears to my eyes. I pray that God will continue to grow her heart to think of others before herself.

Day 4 - January 4, 2016

A few months ago, I mentioned that Adelyn had started climbing the door frames. She practiced climbing consistently for several weeks before we left on vacation and she forgot about being Spider Girl. This afternoon, Spider Girl returned stronger than ever and surprised me when she made it to the top of the door frame. Just in time for gymnastics to begin again this week. She may surprise everyone and make it to the top of the hanging rope and be the first in her class to ring the bell.
