Day 171 - June 20, 2017

I took the older girls to the splash pad to cool off this afternoon. I watched as Adelyn jumped through the spraying water with as much enthusiasm as she did at 2 years old.

Suddenly, she ran over to me and said, "I think I'm loosing a tooth."

"What? Which one?" I asked, surprised.

She pointed to a little baby tooth on the bottom. I gave it a wiggle and sure enough, Adelyn had her first loose tooth.

I confirmed her suspicions and she smiled with delight.

"I can't wait to pull it out!" she shrieked before running back to the splash pad to play.

I immediately picked up my phone and texted Greg the big news.

I'm not ready for this yet, I wrote.

I wanted to jump around with her and share in her excitement, but inside I felt a bit sad knowing I would only see that sweet baby smile for a little while longer. Soon there will be a hole where a baby tooth once lived.

Motherhood is filled with these bittersweet moments.

I remember celebrating the day her first tooth erupted and that same day I sadly said goodbye to her sweet gummy smile.

Her smile is about to change again and while my heart aches a little, I know her smile will be just as radiant!

This was perfectly written. I am right there with you in the emotions that I'm not ready for them to grow up quite yet. What an exciting, big transition she's entering!
